....Post war K98 of the week #34.....Poot French rework

Ok hopefully this will be a great learning experiance for all viewers...each week I will take volunteers to take detailed pictures of a Post WWII K98 to put up on line for the forum members to see--evaluate--and learn.

Here are the ~general~ rules beyond the normal forum rules...

#1 Keep it Civil....If the gun is not correct from it's original Post War configuration, please post specific's so others can learn--do not devalue the weapon with criticism and leave--you must back up your statement for the rest of the forums to learn. If the conversation becomes out of line--I will put it back in check--remember this is a learning experiance for all and many people viewing are not as educated as weekly posters and come here for a reason--education, lets help out!

#2 The Post War K98 of the week gun should be the only gun pictured for that week, unless your using another photo for a example to back-up a statement.

#3 Any Post War K98 conventional length action mauser (R/C's, Yugo K98 configuration, Isreali's, Romanian)

#4 The gun can not be sporterized in any way, don't care if it's refinished from original configuration, but no sporter projects.

#5 The photo's of the "Post War K98" of the week should not be copyrighted in any way so the photo's can be shared freely. If your particular gun photo's are copyrighted~~~please find another example for all to enjoy.

#6 Do not edit or remove any photo's or description of the displayed rifle after it has been posted, It would be nice to use these postings to become a perminate record for years to come.

#7 Be prepared to help---take the time to photo a gun you have even if it's correct OR wrong---we will need guns every week---that's 52 guns a YEAR---so we will need help from all folks.

Gentlemen,
It's a CE 41 that has matching numbers on all visible parts except for the action screws. The bore is pretty bright, with about VG- lands and a good crown. It's a good shooter, but only with HB ammo (no surprises there). All WaA stamped parts are correctly marked with a '37', while the right side of the receiver is marked with two '37's and a '359.' There is a small wood inlay on the forward underside of the stock, very professionally done. When I bought it, the sight hood and cleaning rod were already present.

My concerns/oddities of this rifle that got my attention:
-Someone (a previous owner) put a light coat of bluing on the buttplate
-The floor plate is stamped, instead of being milled
-The bluing looks awfully full and glossy; is this correct, or slightly enhanced?
-The stock is marked only at the wrist. There are no service branch stamps, and no WaA stamps on it.
-The safety switch is marked with the full, four digit serial; weren't these usually marked with only the last two numbers?
-The serial numbers stamped inside the handguard and stock barrel channel match, but were stamped next to older looking numbers. There was no apparent effort to line-out or obliterate the other numbers.

Apologies for the quality of the pics. My trigger finger operates a trigger, not a shutter...

Thanks in advance for taking the time to look at the pics, share your experience, and offer your assessment.
Pat
