In addition to WW-II and earlier military firearms, I've started collecting WW-II items of military or historical significance. I'm hesitant to post too many "OT" topics on the collectors' forum, so I was going to see if there's enough interest from other board members to request a "Military/Historical accoutrements" forum. Your opinions on this would be greatly appreciated!

I checked that forum, it seems like it's primarily geared towards edged weapons. If it is indeed a "general" forum then we can all use that one but I was thinking more along the lines of non-firearms collectibles. The bayonets and similar accessories have a place in the weapons forums. I'm more referring to historical documents, gas masks, maps, wartime monetary script, Holocaust items, etc. Thanks!!

the forum looks geared towards (and is named) edged weapons. i think it would be nice to separate the two, but that's just me.

That's been my feeling for awhile, nothing against them. My odd Euro military packs need a home, though!

Old Forum

WE had a GOOD militaria forum on the other side of this site once, but it got hit hard by the spammers. It would be nice to have another, but it would need to be well moderated to keep this from happening again.

If I put in the request and it's authorized, I'd be willing to moderate it since I'm online every day anyway. From the looks of the poll it might get some good traffic.

I can think of several reasons why not to open a militaria board.

First, as daver pointewd out, it alredy exists here. It's the "Militaria-Swords-Bayonets- Edged Weapons Forum"...not just swords and bayonets, but militaria (I note "militaria" is the very first word in the forum's name.) Second, gunboards.com tried it before and it didn't work....very little trqaffic. It actually closed down just prior to the previous (and short-lived) edition of gunboards. Third, and and no offense to anyone here, let alone Vic and Tuco, but there are already some excelent militaria forums out there that I doubt we could compete with effectively. (And why even compete with them in the first place?) Finally, a large number of us here already belong to many of those forums, and in some cases, even share the same moderators. It just seems like overkill to me and thus a response in search of a need.
