Are the Polish marked Mak P64s uncommon?
It's heavy has horrendous double action trigger pull and is less reliable then Makarov or CZ82. I was raised 10km from Zielonka where this weapon was designed and would not spend dime to get it. The Ruger LCP is far superior close range defensive weapon and used ones can be had for just over $200.

I bought one in pristine condition last year for $180 and just sold it for what I paid just to get rid of it. The Makarovs are still my favorite 9X18 pistols. As slavico said, the double action pull is horrendous.

I got mine for cheap almost a year ago. The heavy DA will ensure a good primer strike. It has a chrome lined barrel as well. I have no idea where "not" reliable comes from could you please elaborate? For the money, they are a hell of a good deal. More punch than a .380 too. Please stop comparing them to Makarov's, two different guns. If you like Maks then buy one. If you want a PPk type 9x18 handgun then get the p64. For the money it has its place in my collection and I will not get rid of it. If you want a plastic, light carry on pistol for a little more, go with the Ruger or Kel Tec.

With a little spring work the DA on these guns isn't bad, without the spring work I'll agree it's horrible. I do not understand the reliability statements are comming from. The ones I have are as reliable as any Mak I have and are as accurate as the average mak.

I bought a P64 when they first became C&R eligible. I replaced the hammer spring with a lighter one, and replaced the recoil spring with a stouter one. That made it much more pleasurable to shoot. I initially had problems with the safety engaging during firing so I replaced the detent and spring with stock 1911 parts (slightly modifying the tip of the detent) and it has been 100% awesomeness since then. The recoil is certainly snappy due to being such a compact 9x18 pistol so I put one of those Hogue "handall" rubber sleeves over the grip, which helps disperse felt recoil a little. I don't carry mine because I trust my Mak above all else but if I had only the P64 I would definitely feel comfortable with it as a reliable EDC.

I just ordered one from SOG and it should be here tomorrow. They are supposed to be in very nice condition. I bought the spare mag so the price was a little over $200.00 OTD. It beats any GB auction by $40.00+ so I'm satisfied.

Pics after I receive it.

Like 45collector above, I made the spring changes and the Houge slip on grip. The P64 still has a stiff recoil to me but not as uncomfortable as my LCP. When I first got into 9X18 pistols, I wanted one of each and got most of them. Didn't get the smaller FEG models but did have a PA-63 for a short time. Have bought several more Makarovs and now only have one CZ82 and one P64. To me the P64 is a fine all steel frame gun that is reliable and fairly easy to carry. In spite of any drawbacks, I like my P64 and may buy another.

the competition for the p64 is not lcp but the lc9 superior weapon to the polish pistol in every way.

I don't see them as competition. I see them as cold war collectable cool ass 9x18 pistols. Every example mentioned I have owned and they have been 100% reliable. How can you even compare them? And further more one is made to be concealed "mostly" and the other is made to be worn in a holster.

I love my P64. NEVER had any issues with it. easy to carry too.
I think I got mine for $164 "before tax and transfer fee" from AIM about 7 months ago. It was basically unused. NOS holster, multi tool, extra magazine. Its nice and a hell of a good deal on a solid pistol. really can't think of any other semi auto for that price that could offer more. Sure you have Ruger and Kel Tec for a bit more but that would be comparing apples and oranges IMHO...
