Thought you would like to see my Vetterli 70-87. This was new made (not converted) in 1889 going by the barrel date and stock cartouche. It is a very pretty rifle and has a perfect bore.

Just got it and very excited - wanted one for some time. Bonus Bayo made it a no-brainer purchase. Is it a correct bayonet or were they shorter (thought I read that some where on the boards). This thing is more like sword.

I would really like to load for it. Are they shootable or wall decoration only? Appreciate any info on where I can get components and/or data to fabricate some rounds for it. Bore is amazing.

Also, what do the stamps (V.G.) (D.M) mean on the left side above the magazine (see pic below)? I assume it was originally fabricated in Torino (reciever stamp) and then converted in 1888 in Terni (Butstock stamp). I couldn't readily find info on Italian Vetterlis to do a full check on all the markings. Is there a specific piece of research/book on them? Thanks in advance for any input.
