I picked up 2 Japanese rifles today a type 38 rifle and carbine and will post pics tomorrow...But the type 38 rifle, a 28th series, is serialed oo85995 and all matched, but no dust cover in very nice condition (95%+)...There is a remnant of a mum which polished off and a ^^ (m) stamped in it's place...Has any new information come to light on these variations? Thanks ahead, Mike

According to Frank Allen's book the M marking shows it was removed from service and assigned to veteran's groups or reserves.
