Broke down and purchased another eg mak today. Paid a little more than I wanted to for one but seems the eg's are harder to find these days, so I went ahead and forked out the 285.00 for it. Has frame stamp I wasnt familiar with if anyone can help, assuming it is import but thougt I would ask everyone just to double check. It is stamped "cal st alb VI", thanks for any additional info in advance.

Nice looker. I think I paid the exact same amount for my last EG.

I can't see in your pic, could you tell us the date of the gun? It'll be forward of the "circle Y" on the left side of the receiver. Cool single digit serial # prefix. I haven't been into Maks for nearly as long as some others here and I've only seen double digit serial # prefixes.

Nice Mak. You did well on the price. At most shows, dealer prices on EG Maks are around $400. Of course someone may get a better price if the owner is not current on EG value but that takes a lot of luck nowdays.

My first EG

I have been looking for an inexpensive, reliable, shooter for my first handgun purchase for a while now. I found a 1965 EG at a large chain store and I was wondering if I got a good deal on it. I paid $150 for it with 2 mags. After reading this forum I realize now that I got a heck of a steal.

$150 at a large chain store???
Very hard to believe that one, IF this is true, you should be smiling ear to ear like "Curly1" avatar. If the gun is sound, no reason to think it isn't, you have won a Best Deal Award here on the Makarov Forum. Maybe the store was in an area prone to ******** and they talked the store owner into getting rid of that "Commie Junk". Nicely done Mister!

And we're back...

Sorry Warrior, the $150 dollar EG is trying to steal your thread,
, but back to your find, you did just fine. I agree with you when you find a rare FTF deal like that, it many times is going home with you that day. My sweet EG with card, holster, tool was $300, and that is the most I have spent on a Mak, including my "unfired" NIB Russian PM. You are always wanting a deal like Sin got, but you certainly didn't get hurt on yours my friend. Nice addition!

do not overlook large chain stores. one of the guys bought pre-war walther pp 7,65mm brown bakelite panels with large eagle and swastika on them for $350. that gun in very good original condition is worth well over 1k.

Your guys are getting great deals on EG Maks! The EG's are seldom seen around here in the Seattle area and if you do they are easily on the +side of $350 for discreet inport marked, mint 98% ones. Even at that price I think they are worth it and I'm buying them up (I'm the sucker who is making you guys a profit :) ). Yeah I wish I was buying them when they first hit the C&R list but I think its not too late as they are still affordable to hoard and I don't think they are going to lose much (if any) value from here on out.

Here at the Seattle area shows (1000+ table shows every month) you actually rarely see any Maks now except for maybe a commercial, adjustable-sighted Russians.. maybe a Bulgy Circle 10 every once in awhile but that's about it. Rarely is an EG to be found and if there happens to be one.. its going home with me.

Of course you should get the best deal you can, but I've paid too much in the past for guns and now I'm just glad that I've got them. The regrets just aren't there. Compared to all the other things we throw money away on, guns to me are worth it. Maybe not financially, but Makarovs are a good investment.
