How was your experience buying in person? Do they have stacks on stacks of random surplus from the cache like IMA does?
It was very good. Stephanie and Shaw were very nice. I didn’t get to see the warehouse but I noticed a lot of rifles in the office including a bunch of M1 Carbines. Shaw did mention they still have a large crate of Ethiopian stuff to open and sort through. He said they are mostly various carbines.

Lol. I wouldnt be surprised if there wasnt many left back in ethiopia to import. But who knows maybe they will discover even more. That would be cool. They already shipped my vetterli carbine and gras rifle. Never had em ship so quick. Only took em about 1 day. It seems for the antiques they ship em quicker but usually takes a few days to a week.

Mine took two weeks to process before I could even pick up but I got caught in the $99 Carcano shipping madness. Interested to see what you get for a Vetterli carbine.

Have you seen the African warehouse? They have plenty.

Just curious on the Vetterli 6.5 does your firing pin fall forward past the bolt face when you cock it like mine does? That scares me a little. Seems like the cartridge would go off while pushing the bolt handle down. It has not done that yet but I am still concerned. I chambered a cartridge with a primer and no bullet to test. It did go off when I pulled the trigger. Just wondering if RTI showed me some love by sending me a defective product after spending a couple of grand at their store.

Ill check mine to see. U can also put something in the primer pocket so u dont have to waste a primer. I like to use a hole pich on vinyl tubing from the hardware store

I bought an RTI Vetterli TS Carbine and thought I would report back.

It came out of the box pretty clean. I was surprised as my other RTI purchases were all filthy. It has the proper bolt / bolt face. It has a different rear sight from the one in the OP. I'm not sure what that means. It did not have a cleaning rod. The rear sight leaf is stuck at the moment, and the front sling loop has been repaired like only an Ethiopian gun smith could repair it. Overall not bad looking:

Hand Wood Trigger Jewellery Revolver

After opening it up, however, RTI did not disappoint!

Wood Auto part Metal Bicycle part Office supplies

The bolt parts had matching numbers, which I thought was interesting

Automotive tire Gas Rim Automotive wheel system Font

Wood Rectangle Grey Water Font

After boiling and scrubbing it cleaned up.
Wood Trigger Gun barrel Twig Air gun

Wood Air gun Trigger Shotgun Line

Wood Automotive exterior Material property Plank Rim

The bore is surprisingly good, better than a lot of the sewer pipes out of Ethiopia:

Not the greatest, but I still like it.

TommyL,
Your carbine has the original rear sight intended for M70 black powder ammunition.
Nice find, and looks shootable.

The VV70/87 shown is Not a "Carbine" but a Moschetto TS,
( Special Troops Musketoon) or a Carabinieri TS ( Military Police Musketoon)
No 70/87 "Carbines" ( for Cavalry) with Spike Byt. Ever adopted, EXCEPT for a Special 500 Batch for the Eritrean Natve Cavalry, and sent to the new Italian colony in 1888. ( Not an Army order, but Colonial Office order.).
Very few known to date...a couple in Museums in Italy, a few (2-4) in Private collections in Italy, USA and Australia ( Mine came via the Queenslander Surveyor General of the Sudan, ( retired 1928, died 1948; Cav Carb. and a Gras sold to me by his Grandson in about 2000, ( no Spike Byt) with Historical Docs of History of SG of Sudan.
Some " Private Purchase" 70/87 Cav Carbs also assembled in 88-90....fate unknown...probably lost in First Italo-Abyssinian War ( Adowa, 1896).
So there is a Very very small chance that an "Eritrean Cavalry Carbine " may still surface out of Africa!!!
As the Romans used to say,
" Semper Novitas Ex Africae":
There is always something new out of Africa ( " The Name of the Rose", By Umberto Eco).

BTW, AVBTechServices has Newly-made 70/87 Charger clips Available. ( Tinplate & Wood)
Enjoy your new Acquisitons.

For the sake of accuracy the Vetterli Moschetto da Truppe Speciali (short rifle for specialist troops; engineers, artillery etc) is totally different to the Vetterli Moschetto da Carabinieri (carbine for Military Police). The term 'Moschetto' was used in regards to the Vetterli for any arm that was not a full-length infantry rifle (Fucile da Fanteria)...so Moschetto refers to carbines carried by mounted troops (both Cavalry and Carabinieri) and to the short rifle (TS). However an exception was the rare Vetterli Bertoldo and Vetterli-Ferracciu short rifles which were termed 'Carabina'. The mega-rare Vetterli-Bertoldo carbine was still termed Moschetto. Clear as mud.
