I'm trying to locate some photos of the UVF, Irish Volunteers, etc. from the pre-WW1 period and the Easter Rising. In particular I need photos of Micks armed with M.71 Mausers, Martini carbines, Lee-Metford/Enfield rifles and carbines and Vetterlis. I already have plenty of the UVF with Gewehre 88 and M.1904 Mannlichers.

Many thanks.

Hi Krag,

There was half-hour, not particularly insightful program on the 1916 Easter Rising on History International last night. They did have some great archival film though, showing Irish Volunteers with Vetterlis and IG 71 Mausers. I saw a few long Lees and some "borrowed" RIC carbines as well. The Mausers were used primarily by James Connolly's Irish Citizen Army. If you can get a hold of a copy of Tim Pat Coogan's "The Irish Civil War" you'll find a wealth of photos (despite the title, the book covers the period of 1912-1922).

Good luck,

Devo

Try your local library. The literature is huge and there are many photos, including some taken by Childers when delivering to Howth, clearly showing M71s, crates, etc. and offloading in port. They wren't especially security conscious.

Devo - I checked them out and others and while they are what I need they are far too small to reproduce in print.

Thanks for trying.
