PEM repro side mount question

1452 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  cruddymutt
For those that have re-snipered their MN rifles with a repro side mount, I understand there are at least two and possibly more mount and base sources. I would appreciate any comments and points of contact that anyone can provide before I continue with my project (Tula '38 side mount ex-sniper).
Thanks for any help you can provide.

I have a 39 Tula ex-sniper coming Tuesday and I ordered Igors repro PEM mount a couple days ago off ebay. Thats the only PEM side mount I know of. Side note-Igors is for low wall receivers and most side mount exPEMs are high walled (I think). My 39 is a "CN" marked Tula but it is on a low wall receiver and was never drilled/tapped for a mount.
Having had several redone; I recommend one of Dmitry's (Feldscher here on the Boards) as it is almost exactly the same as the orininal
including screw and thread sizing.. He may have some still available, but gets them in from time to time. Igor's are fine as well, but thread and
screw sizes are not as original. (See Vic's Sticky)...:)
Thanks! That's the info I was looking for. I saw the Ebay mount and the "low wall reciever" note which might not be correct for mine as it is definitely the high wall type with the single plugged hole visable. While we're discussing these mounts, who is adept at installing this type?

Either Frank Robertson (Tankdriver here) of Robertson's Restorations or Tigerman, also on the Boards. Both are busy guys, so don't know who could get to it first..:)
When I asked him about his advert stating fits low wall receivers, he says they fit high wall and to his knowledge low walls were never used with the long side rail system, although you could use hiis mount on a low wall too.

Before you drill and tap it, you should post some pics here. Your rifle may be put together with an older reciever. I have a Finn capture that has 1938 Tula sniper proofed barrel on and older reciever(I think it's a Westinghouse reciever).
Well my entire premise for building a side mount PEM is that I own a 35 Tula PE (CN marked repro) and a 42 Izzy PU (exsniper repro). Obviously I am missing the PEM in my personal collection. Since they are scarce with mounts and scopes and usually quite a bit more than my budget allows, I opted to build my own. While doing research on mounts I saw that Igors fit low walled receivers. It mentions nothing of also fitting High walls so when I found a sniper proofed low wall I jumped on it. The rifle is not here yet and I am not 100% it will be used for this project as I am curious of the tang date and not 100% the "CN" marks are not fake themselves. Plus this rifle HAS to be accurate before I even think of mounting a scope to it. Every rifle I buy, I shoot. I have no safe queens. If Igors mounts do in fact fit high walls and this 39 Tula ends up being something special then I may reconsider.
