I've seen several PEM side mounts with serial numbers stamped on them. However, none were on the original rifle. What does the number represent? The original rifle or scope serial number or something else entirely?

Thanks, Mike

Not sure what to make of your rifle, the rear sight elevation adjustor has a rear ramp milled into it which is a 1950's era refurb trait. There's no way that's original to that rifle.

Sparky, can you post up your recent PEM acquisition?

Some mis-info here?

The base, screws, capture screws, and post on that base sure are clean for a 1938 artifact, the cyrillic letters for a 1938 tula bother me and the stock cut is not factory(which is not a big deal). I like the star on the base and believe it was probably original. I would not buy that rifle but then again I have passed on a ton of legit stuff because I am less than smart at times.. No disrespect intended here but imo the base was not numbered to the rifle.(I collect finns) Bases were hand fitted to mounts. I should not be permitted to look at rifles which are in better than battlefield condition and mess up other peoples conversations with bad info about kosher vs non kosher. lol.

think you are missing the point were the bases marked with the scope numbers or rifle numbers on the PEM mounts the 00 prefix could be the scope number but the Alpha prefix never seen scopes with the two alpha prefixes.
Paul
Paul.I agree I think I am missing the point too. I do not believe the bases were matched to the rifle or the scope. I admit before hand I could be wrong. i have three battle field unrefurbed pem 1939 mosin side mount rifles with what I believe are their original bases and they are not matched to a scope or rifle. They all have either two letter prefixes in original tula font and three numbers or just three numbers. I believe they are matched to their mount not their rifles or scopes. Waiting politely to be corrected... or confused further

my side PEM mounts are numbered to the rifle as the serial numbers have a two digit alpa prefix while the PEM scopes only have a single alpha prefix? Also it looks the finns just swapped mounts and rifles around. Not my pictures but shows a good example of markings.
Paul
Paul, could you show all markings on this base? The "K" in circle looks strange.

Hello,

I hate to go against the grain here but to me bases and mounts will have serial of rifle on it. since they didn't use prefixes till 1937/38 its funny that the bases and mounts have double prefixes. they did same thing for SVT and PU production so why would it be any different for PEM. I don't have enough info yet for PE observations.
