Nothing like it and imported all the way from Iowa, the epi center of Turkey Loaf. Nothing too good for our troops and for sure, nothing too good for them on Thanksgiving ...LOL.

Actually, the military goes out of its way on Thanksgiving and Xmas to get great hot meals to the troops, I give the high marks for that epic effort.

Turkey meat, Turkey skin, Cracker meal, turkey fat and salt. Everything a growing boy needs.
"I don't know how you feel about this shrimp, but if you'll eat it, you'll never have to prove your courage in any other way."

Happy Thanksgiving Mil. I'm glad I'm eating a somewhat fresher bird not in a can today.

I'm surprised there's no corn meal in it.

Well, us Grunts were surprised there was any Turkey meat in it ! However,
it was somewhat edible unlike some of the other C ration offerings...some of
which I'm sure was Soylent Green.
The pleas, trade offers (current and future) and outright threats to divest oneself of "Ham and MFers" were epic.

The unrecognizable matter in a can of Ham & Lima Beans (Mfer's) was without question Soylent Green.
We hated that meal with a passion and it was non editable . Open can, dump it out and certainly every place
we did that, its still a Hazmat contaminated spot.

Peaches & pound cake....glorious stuff. I often buy both and make it up.

I noticed the case you posted also had 'ham and eggs, chopped' which was almost as bad as the ham and mothers. I remember during Tet when all they would have in the mess hall was C-rations, they would remove the entrees and throw them in a trash can filled with water and an immersion heater and as you went through the chow line they would hand you a box and then reach into the hot water and give you a hot entree...and it was luck of the draw as to what you received. I remember a couple of weeks of that before the real food started coming in again.

Actually, I liked most of the "Cs". If memory serves, the spaghetti and beef w/sliced potatoes were probably my faves. Never saw a full tin of white bread or Ham w/MFs (other than discarded, empty ones in the field around Swamps LeJeune). Oh, almost forgot about the Shi* Discs (both chocolate & vanilla). Though objectionable at first, that unique blend of chocolate with a hint of soap flavor became an acquired taste. The sparkling, toxic water The Corps provided to wash it all down with (unbeknownst to us in 1971) was the perfect aperitif..
