Glanced at about 4-5 SVT 40's at the show and saw this one just as the seller put it on the table. It's non refurbed, all stamped matching except the magazine, I have an unstamped/un-numbered magazine I can put it if I decide to do so. It has no import or Finn stamps and has excellent original finish with an excellent bore. The stock is dated 1941 also. The only negative is that it has some stress cracks in the stock behind the action on each side of the pistol grip. A fairly common condition found on many of the original early SVT's. Most likely from the wood drying out. Paid $800 for it which I knew was a good price as refurbed ones are going for that.
Not sure about the sling on it but it resembles a Finn sling.
Went to the NGD next door and there were a number of SVT's there also. Some moved over from the SOS show.
I never saw so many for sale between the two shows before. A couple were also non refurbed originals but with mis matched numbers, Ray

In looking at the photos of Finn rifles on Vic's great MN site, the sling on my SVT resembles that of a M39 sling having the long leather lead on the button side.
It's possibly my rifle had been used by the Finns but there are no Finn stamps on it, Ray

Nice looking rifle, but it's not the original finish IMO. See pics for comparison. Sling is also found on Finn weapons now and then. My Finn captured SVT had that sling on it originally. Still, finding an all matching SVT for a decent price is AWESOME!

Looks Finn captured but unmarked.

Ray is the gas system redone to include a 2 setting? Looks nice! The sling is not correct as you knew. It's a m30 Finnish sling for the tikka rifles. Very nice. I have tools and slings if you need them.

Vic it has a "2" setting. 1,2,3,5,7,

bdgfate, I assume your'e referring only to the stock finish because there is no question the metal finish is all original.
It's not a pretty stock as it only has a light coat of untinted shellac on it which doesn't cover the spotty grain. I've seen a few original un-refurbed 1941 stocks that look about the same, also when I bought the rifle I showed it to a few experienced collectors and no body questioned it at the time. Could it be refinished? maybe, I don't know. If it was, all that must have been done was to maybe remove some darked collored shellac. The stock could probably be cosmetically improved with a coat of new darker tinted shellac if one wanted to.

Vic, also thanks for the offer on the sling but I have that nice early leather SVT sling I bought off the trader board a couple months ago that I had put on my refurbed SVT. I will take off and put it on this one and the Finn sling on the refurbed one for now, Ray

The gas valve settings should read, 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.5 1.7 on a non-Finned rifle. Finned SVT's will have the 1.1 setting machined off and stamped with a 2.

I like the OP's and bdgfate's rifles. Mine is a 1942 Tula refurb. The original date is 1941. the 1 is over struck with a 2. I paid $850 for that. I may have went ahead and taken the late fees for rent if I saw that one (OP's) for $800. I would examine the bedding. If that action has been in there awhile, it will show.

The stock has a 1941 date so it probably is the original stock. Also if it was a Finn stock, I would assume it would have a Finn stamp on it, Ray

I'm not judging your stock at all here. I'm just saying that stocks can be replaced, even with a correct dated one. I'm also not saying yours has been replaced, I don't have it in my hands. I'm just throwing out possabilities.

Reguardless, I would have bought that one myself if it had come across my path. And I am in no way saying that it is not worth what you purchased it for. Looks good to me from here.

Its the original stock- its numbered to the gun! Finish was most likely removed or replaced when it got here. It has no [SA] and lacks the 2 mod to the gas system so Im guessing a 50's import that remained intact. I would have bought it in a heartbeat at that price.[/QUOTE]

Vic, I remember when they came in, I think about the 50's -60's as I bought one of them a few years after I got out of the Army after a three year hitch in 1959. Joined on my 17th birthday. The SVT was all original but can't recall if it was matching or not as I was not as concerned about matching numbers then. I sold it for $125 a few years later.

Here's an old Service Armament Co. catalog I still have. I can't find a date on it but I think it's about the early 60's. I say that because I remember the prices listed in the catalog are about what I paid for the SVT, as well as a broomhandle mauser and a 41 Johnson and a P38 around that time.

How about the price on the MP44. You could either get it welded as a Dewat or they would sell it Live and you had to register it.
I paid a heck of a lot more for mine 10 years ago, Ray

Ray, you got a super rifle at a great price. Guess I did not see it since you scarfed it up too fast.

Looks like from you add, the SVT was not cheap. For $26 more you could get a G43 sniper and the Enfield sniper and Johnson were cheaper. The smart move would have been to get one of each, although we must remember each rifle was probably about or more than a weeks pay.

Congrats on the rifle.
