This one is mainly for Son and Lithy but feel free to chime in.
When was the Omark trialled?
What year?
Thanks

It will bring you no joy, Ned...
It says they were used to develop the sniper concept... they played with them... used them as a training aid in the absence of something better suited than a HT, until they eventually trialled several rifles for the replacement of the HT. The rifles trialled were H & K G3 SG1. Austrian SSG 69, Mauser 66, and the Parker Hale.

I have entered a post on the other forum as well but I do understand what you are saying mate.
BUT I can't agree that they should not be allowed to be used.
Simply by the fact they they where used in what ever form for the purpose of....
Bit like the 30 round mag for the M16 A1 we had in the battalion. Only had them because we did a big swap with the yanks, never an officially recognized scale of issue but everyone from the CO down used them. if someone looked into the CES for the M16A1 it was officially only ever issued with a 20 rd mag. No official documentation but it did happen.

Cheers and thanks

Here's the passage you want, that Lithy referred too... it begins on the page before with

"In the process of developing the sniper concept and equipment, more suitable to Australian....."

So... from this you can see they used the Omark to develop their doctrine... better than carrying a stick I suppose, plus they were cheap, available and took service ammunition as well as being accurate.
The rifles as trialled are clearly stated in detail.... Sorry, mate... the Omark wasn't one of them. Possibly only because the manufacturers refused to stick a magazine on them... they would never have been accepted for the trial without. They simply didn't meet the requirement.

Yep understand,
I suppose it all boils down to the fact that at club and association level competitions so long as it is promulgated earlier that these rifles will be allowed then all is kosher, heaven forbid if it gets to a state or national level.
Maybe the saving grace is that they where evaluated but deemed unfit for trail, Now that is in the rules so it would be allowed!
At least we have the maturity to be able to discuss the pro's and con's, the real test will be on the mound!!!

cheers

mate... after it's been used at local level for a while, submit it for consideration at National level first. They are looking at the big picture... paint it to look like it will bring people into the sport and you might be surprised
