Does anyone know what the first Mauser rifle was. Im kinda of going backwards as I started buying K98s,then picked up a couple Gew98s, then started looking at Gew88s, then I was told the 71/84 was the first adopted buy the German army then I was told it was the modle 71 single shot. I would like to know when this all started. Thank you.

model 1869. Keith

edit: just looked this up in MMOTW 5th ed., there was an 1867/70 mauser-norris design, and an earlier chassepot/mauser rifle. the 1869 is the first listed as plain mauser though. y'all have a good day, Keith

Paul Mauser supposedly worked on an improvement (or two) for the Dreyse Needle Rifle, and some various prototypes before his famous Gew 71. There was a Gew71 on the trader recently, plug plug.
