Neat provenance on this one.
I found this Type 99 at the Fremont, Nebraska Gun Show several years ago.
The aluminum plate establishes that Darrel Devoe adquired the rifle on Okinawa in April, 1945.
Darrel Dee Devoe joined the US Army in the Signal Corp in 1943 after his first year of college.
His father worked for the local telephone company, suggesting perhaps that Mr. Devoe had some skills in communication equipment when he joined as a Private in Omaha.
He acquired the rifle during the battle.
Please note the damage on the left side of the rifle.
I have made a request for Mr. Devoe's service record.
He died in Fremont, Nebraska in 2003 at the age of 80.
