Bob S sent me a rifle that had been incorrectly drilled, and it was fun to get back right.

So here is a step, by step of what I did to correct it.

As you can see by this photo the front hole is low. So I figured the best way to take care of it was to fill it in and start over. I made a screw that was larger in diameter that it should have been. In fact it took a large pair of vise grips to screw it in.

You can see by this photo it also was not drilled straight.

I then used the dreaded dremel tool to hack it off.

I welded it in, then using a wheel grinder, and a low grit belt sanded got the tool marks about the same.

I then touched up the blueing.

As you can see there is only 2 nice holes showing on the inside. The way that was done is I did not drill the new hole all the way through. I left about 20 thousandths there so it would still look correct.

Mounted base and did a little maching to get it to fit correctly

Got everthing lined up correctly

And turned out a nice sniper rifle.

From BAD to GOOD.

Just thought you'd may like to see some of the stuff I get sometimes....

Thanks for your support over the years, good times AND bad.........:D

nice. clever how it still looks correct with a false screw.

I drilled it, tapped it and put a screw that is about 1/4" shorter that one that goes all the way through. When I redrilled the front, I just made sure I did not go all the way through. So it has 2 screws and 2 pins in the receiver.

Some things are "Trade Secrets" ......

In all seriousness... take a good machine shop class and then work at honing your skills, by practice, practice, practice......

For years and years and years........:(

Frank,
One of these days you are going to have to teach me your skills!

Unfortunately I don't think I have enough years left on this Earth to acquire the skills that you have. Nice work!

This is nice to know as I've ordered my first scopeless sniper from SAMCO. If it is a good shooter I will be looking for Frank's expertise to re-scope the rifle.

Another PU

Frank sent me a message that he had my PU done. Like a kid knowing he is getting a new toy, I had to get it as soon as possible. This is the second rifle that Frank has done for me and as before he did an excellent job. Unlike most of you, I live close enough to drive down and pick mine up. I left Frank's shop wishing for more time. Frank is a true specialist in this field. I look forward to our next project. (I ordered the PE scope and side rail mount today!) Frank has had alot on his plate in the past year but the work is great. Thanks again and Merry Christmas!

PS When it warms up I will take pictures!

Tony
