We hear the usually that most Tula PU rifles do not have the locating pin holes drilled all the way through the receiver like the Izhevsk snipers do.
Well here is a really nice 43 dated C something lightly marked, not messed with with both pin holes drill all the way through. Just another, "I’ll be," to stick in the back of your mind…..

My 43 Tula which is barreled into a 41 Izhevsk receiver has all 4 holes drilled through it albeit the locator pins are slightly drilled through.

The Cyrillic N on almost all these 43's I've seen are lightly struck....mine actually looks like a Cyrillic P with horns.

Lets make this really interesting shall we?

Anyone care to explain this one?

Why does this 43 Tula PU show a characteristic "X" to note capture as found on RC K98's (almost in the same place as a matter of fact) and then have a huge 3842 serial number stamped over the year?

I have a standard 1942 Tula that has the large number stamped over the serial number as well. No x though. I haven't taken it out of its stock yet but I wonder if the number is the typical large font barrel number that is suppose to be on the bottom side but instead was stamp on top? Just speculation. I need to disassemble mine and check the theory.
