I picked this bayonet up today for $35. It looks nice, but the handle is quite odd and held on with screws. The wood and finish of the handle looks japanese, but I have not seen this type of handle on a japanese bayonet. I figure this is someone's adaptation, but the fit and finish of the handle is quite nice...

Interesting, I agree the wood and finish do look very Japanese. But as you I don't feel it was done by the Japanese. Jon
