In the butt plate box and found this brass butt plate. I don't know what the 'W' signifies but I like the large and small stars denoting Australian manufacture.

I’m a little confused. Aren’t any of your other spare buttplates wearing manufacturer markings?

The W…look at the edge around the trap. Is is cord worn?

No this is the only one with these markings. I have one marked OA on the tangs but that is all.

Interesting. I have noticed markings on buttplates but never paid much mind.
ILCO for Savage. Various British marks. OA on later Lithgows etc. Steel BP’s as a matter of idle curiosity.
But only on spares or if I had to remove one for a halfway decent reason. If I didn’t see any then I probably shrugged it off and went on.

Maybe they forgot to mark the P on the other side, making it PW (Part Worn)
