NYC Mayor: Spent NYPD Range Shell Casings Cannot Be Sold to Ammo Manufacturershttp://www.breitbart.com/Big-Govern...-Casings-Cannot-Be-Sold-To-Ammo-Manufacturers

As part of his commitment "to public safety," New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio will no longer allow ammunition manufacturers to enter bids for spent New York City Police Department (NYPD) shell casings. According to the New York Times, Georgia Arms won the auction for the shell casings in 2012 with a bid of $67,680.
NYT reports that "Georgia Arms routinely buys once-fired shell casings, reloads them with bullets and sells a bag of 50 for $15 to the public." Their winning bid in 2012 netted them "28,000 pounds of shell casings."
New York's Department of Citywide Administrative Services is holding an auction for the first time since Georgia Arms bought the shell casings in 2012. The prize is "67,200 pounds...of spent brass casings," enough to be converted "into millions of bullets." Mayor de Blasio has made it clear that the bidding is open only to "recyclers or their representatives."
In other words, Georgia Arms need not apply.
De Blasio press secretary Phil Walzak explained:
As a member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Mayor de Blasio has pledged to protect our people and support the national movement for common sense gun control. Limiting the sell of bullet shell casings and lead to metal recyclers supports our overall commitment to public safety.

Any law about who the approved recyclers can sell to or the condition of the brass ? The price difference between once fired and scrap is pretty significant. Especially if the buyer is out of state, or sell it to another recycler out of state. NYC is not exactly famous for strict adherence to the law when a profit is involved. badda bing badda boom

NYC is the crown jewel of King Cuomo's progressive empire, and mayor de Blah-Blah is his most loyal nobleman. So, it should surprise no one that he would take all steps needed to prevent the peasents from resisting the will of his highness.

Lets hope no one buys it.
Scrap dealers are hot after all scrap metals nowadays. The local dealer in North Carolina will buy 'yellow brass' from individuals for $1.60/lb. 67,200 lbs @1.60 is $107,520. I'm sure it'll cross the mind of the scrap buyer to quietly put this 'scrap' in the back lot and move it at a later date to an out of state smelter (as in reloader) for max profit. It will take two tractor-trailers to ship this due to weight. Two trucks for two days apiece from NY to GA will cost approx. $4800 total (following all DOT trucking regulations). It's a doable deal for the right individuals. (I'm a big fan of 'The Sopranos' TV series)

Just another way for liberals to exercise gun control. They can't take the guns so they'll take the ammo or the means to make it. Kinda glad I stocked up on pig lead for my smokepoles. Seems like that will be the only thing we'll have to shoot the way things are going, and even then somebody will find a way to ban even those.

Allow me to put it a bit more bluntly. NYC is a festering boil of corruption.

You know, besides New Yorkers feeling that NYC is the center of the universe, I couldn't care less about what happens there! As far as any firearms related issues, NYC has long ago been unfriendly to gun owner. And, it would appear that Cuomo is making that the official state motto!
