Picked this up this week-end at a show in MI.Paid too much. However I am always looking for non refurb or Used a lot after refurb Mosin Nagants.Total mis-matched parts.Chinese Factory 21 marked bolt.Handguard looks home-made or not mfg at factory.2 large repairs in stock on LH side.Smaller Century billboard import mark.Late war stock to go with 1945 date mfg.THe previous owner had shot it and not cleaned it.I lucked out and the bore cleaned up and is bright and shines. This is the 2nd Mosin nagant I have found that was used a lot after refurb or had not gone thru the Refurb process.I have seen 2 or 3 Mosin Nagants with what I will cal "Albanian" Features.Strange buttstock contours, sling slots in different locations other than what Soviet block stocks had,Larger repairs to stocks,Renumbered with no Cyrillic prefixs that match barrel SN.Different Hand guard contours from Soviet block types.I dont see any Mosin nagants advertised in other than the Refinished or like new condition.I remember when the 44 carbines were comming in and were either like new or very worn.Anyhow I ended up with this worn mis-matched 1945 dated Izhevsk with 1 box of Wolf ammo bought out of the trunk of a car for 120.00 All because of the patches in the stock and the wear.Century SN is TP5231-dont know if it falls in the SN's that are put on the T-53s that are comming in now or if Century is adding their own # to those or adding the orginal SN to the Receiver.

What type of wood is used for the repairs? It's not the same as the original stock. The bolt looks Chinese to me. It's to late a design to have that serial to be Russian/Soviet. To many numbers too.

Wow!!...Okay, this one intrigues me...

...that stock repair looks like Chinese "Chu" wood (I know that's not the proper terminology...but...)...

...could this be something that was field repaired in Vietnam?...(T3 mated with m44??)...

...both carbines were 'in country' at the same time, is it possible (especially considering the recent strange imports) that this might have come from 'Nam via Albania??...

...correct me if I am wrong, but this could be at least ONE avenue that this strange and REALLY INTERESTING Mosin got here??...

...GREAT FIND, Betonfahrer!!...

Yes the bolt is CHinese with Long SN and the faint 21 in triangle. With all the posts on t-53 Carbines comming in you can see a mix of Soviet stocks or other parts and the different blueing on them.I screwed up on the SN.-Centurys 91/30 with billboard import stamp usually start with # 9130-I have a 91/30 with the Wierd Distorted "Albannian" Type stock.Century Sn is 9130-182873-so me and my FFL were thinking was this batch of rifles almost 200,000 ? Other import SN,s are different-the RGuns 91/30s or at least the ex snipers had the X prefix in the import SN.I have seen the examples of ALbanian Mosin Nagnts on the Moisn websites, and there is theory about Chinese helping the Albanians set up SKS production. There is more info out there or others that know more.I dont know if anyone has tried to extrapolate the amount of 91/30s and other MN variations buy the ADD on Century SN on receiver. Finally My "Albanian" 91/30 had a Dark almost black Shellac stock,Long buttstock with low comb and different contour and stock slot location,Larger non typical repairs,No Cyrillic prefix on re-numbered parts.Others look like lots of use after Refurb-or handled a lot.Just my .02 on this.

My line of thinking was the initial issue of Russian carbines to China before the tooling was set up and ready for use to produce the T-53. I suppose there is no way of really knowing, but that is the intrigue I was speaking of.

If it came out of Nam, I think it would look much ruffer.

Who knows?

By the way. I have two Albainian SKS's, and the similarity to the Chinese T-56 is amazing.
