Was shown a T38 with a long serial number (1st series?) mounted in a stock with no joint in the butt. Mum was ground but I think the bolt matched. The bore has rifling and the serial did not start with 00, so I'm guessing this is some kind of put-together.

The wood was weird, looking almost like a leopard hide. I don't recall seeing a metal buttplate, so is this a schools stock?

That sound like a rifle that has a Chinese replacement stock added later on. Chinese replacement stocks are one piece stocks of various types of wood..Is there any markings near the end of the barrel,on the bottom normally? Could be a 38 stuck in a trainer stock.Pictures would help a bunch.
