I posted a previous thread on the K98 forum:
http://forums.gunboards.com/showthread.php?257886-K98-mystery-(to-me)-markings&p=2065154#post2065154
describing an old Mauser that turns out to be a scrubbed wz29. I was pretty excited about that and have been wondering about attempting some sort of rehabilitation of this venerable Mauser.

I've been reading everything I could find here on Gunboards and apparently parts, particularly stocks, seem almost impossible to come by. Mine came with an Israeli 98k stock so I'd really like to swap it out for something for appropriate. I've read that the Czech 24 stock might fit the Polish wz29 but is that really so? I'm thinking the Czech might be the only somewhat available stock out there.

ANY ideas on alternate furniture for the wz29 are greatly appreciated!

A VZ24 stock should fit. They are cheap and available.

Your scrubbed WZ29 should be a Spanish Civil War veteran. The Spanish were known to mix and match somewhat when rebuilding rifles, so a VZ24 stock might be put on by Spain while an Israeli definitely would not. The Spanish put a lot of Oviedo M1927 Paraguayan rifles in G98 stocks when rebuilt.

What is a 1927 Oviedo?I know the 1893 and 1916,they did an update on the 1916 before they went to the large ring M-43?

That was a model they made only for export to Paraguay in 7.65X53. Apparently Paraguay bought the A block but not the B block which remained in Spain, was rebarrelled or rebored to 7.92X57, used in the SCW, and rebuilt after the SCW.
