Since Garfield's Dad is retiring from putting on this annual shoot, Digger Doug and I have been tasked with keeping it going.
This morning I drove out to the Mohave Sportsman Club (11 miles from my house) to check it out and ask some questions. They have a beautiful facility with three large 100 yard ranges, pistol ranges, intermediate ranges and even a 1000 yard range. They are fine with full auto weapons as long as they are papered. I went ahead and joined for $30/year and the rate for guests is $10/day but I was told that we could probably get a group rate if we talk to their treasurer. With the room they have there and the abundance of good restaurants in town we may not have to make this an invitation only event?
I took some photos while there so y'all can see the place. There is a sign on the range office that says range improvements were made possible with a grant from the NRA so don't tell me that being a member isn't worthwhile.
Nice to know I'll have a place to fire my T-99 LMG anytime I want to

Looks great Rob, count me in! Sorry I missed your call today. JH
Thanks Jim. I wasn't sure if you were familiar with this range or not but it looks like it will work for us.

Rob,

When would this event take place?

John in Charlotte, NC
John, we already had our shoot for this year but we've found that spring is probably the best time for it. We used to try to do in in the fall but the monsoons made a mess of that. One year we nearly got flash flooded away and another year we spent the whole time in Langley's shop because of the rain.
The beauty of having it here is that Kingman is right on I-40 and only 100 miles from Las Vegas so it should be easy for anyone to get to. Also, the short road out to the range is in great shape.

Thanks Rob; I just may try and get out there next Spring.

That would be great if you could make it. I was talking to Gary Nila earlier today about this. He does a lot of the organizing of these shoots and he thought it would be great if we could do another one this year, so we'll see. A lot of folks weren't able to make the one we had a few weeks ago, so that's not such a bad idea.

Looking good Rob. I'm thinking about heading up that way for Memorial Day weekend. Maybe we can do some shooting and try 'er out.
That sounds great Doug! I need to ask the folks there if it would be ok for me to set up my shooting bench between the permanent benches they have there. The adjustable seat on my bench is a big plus and I can attach my spotting scope to it. I also need to ask them if we can set up some shade awnings behind the line for those that aren't shooting.

Rob... will they allow setting up to the left of the line, in the dirt? Some of the heavy MG's are hard to work with on the concrete between the benches... also, will they allow additional targets (i.e. bowling pins, steel, paper etc.)?

Edit: Just read the range rules on their website... from the several shoots I have been to these might be a problem!

10. Target stands and paper targets are available at the Range Office. **Please do not shoot at anything
on the ground including cans, rocks**, golf balls, bottles, etc. to prevent a possible ricochet-type injury.
Breakable and explosive targets are not permitted.
11. **Use of alcohol** and/or drugs, or being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs while at the range is
strictly prohibited, and will be dealt with severely by the Board of the MSC.

Rob,

I am glad you and Doug are keeping this annual event going. Jim put a lot of effort on this in the past and it seems both of you have a great plan for the future engagements. Look forward in going and helping you guys out where I can.

Russ
