I just found this and purchased. I’ve never seen a crosshatched rifle before. I have a type 14 with crosshatched grips. I’m thinking the soldier did this, given it looks identical to last ditch sword handles. The bayonet is the same. The wood has turned dark in those areas

Interesting rifle and crate. As Jareth said, the carving was done by a bored GI. If I would've seen it I would've bought it. Can't say I've ever seen a doll in a bring-home box before.

The rifle is all matching with aircraft sights. The downside is a ground mum. Given the date, 10/45 I’m sure it came out of a pile.

Japanese pilots carried dolls into combat. I’ve seen them in photos hanging off flight suits. Uncertain if these dolls were from pilots children or ?

You know far more about than I do. Haven’t run across a doll before.

Someone removed the spring for the monopod.

I’ll see if I can find one on ebay.
