Just noticed my new to me Tula M44 has a riveted rear sight base. Very unusual for a M44 yes ?

I have an M38 or two like that. It doesn't surprise me to see it on an M44, especially a Tula. Tula seemed to specialize in unique from 1941 to 1944.

It's under M38 here. http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinFeatures02.htm Based on the ones I've seen it was primarily at Izhevsk from 1940 to 1942. You just never know what Tula is going to sneak in though.

I have a 1945 Izhevsk hex M44 with rivet just like that.

I should probably look back through my collection. It's easy to overlook this feature and I may have more. In 1945 Izhevsk reused a lot of receivers and it wouldn't surprise me that they were using up other miscellaneous parts on M44s.
