Recently I purchased an M44 and loved it so while I was at gander mountain they had them and the 91/30's on sale for $99 with the ammo pouch, cleaning kit and bayonet. The 91/30's I've seen a few of these around but havent seen any with the brass caps on the ends of the upper hand guard. All the numbers match with I am suprised coming from a retail center.

The days of mismatched mosins are far behind us. These days we are getting cream of the crop, the rifles refurbished after the WWII in order to be issued in WW 3, that hopefully will never arrive.

I saw a couple upper hand guards with brass end caps, but they were on mosins made in 1942 at Izhevsk. I am not paying 99 dollars (my local Gander Mountain) for 1942 Izhevsk M91/30 just because of hand guard. The other two, 1939 Izhevsk and 1941 Izhevsk M91/30 are much more tempting.

I bought it because I wanted a 91/30 and the only other place around had the gun alone for 149.99 so I didnt mind the price. Its a 1943 Izhevsk. There was a bunch of paper stuffed in the ammo pouch that looks older than crap and is in russian, probably something someone stuffed in there they didnt want sometime in the recent past.

Welcome to the boards and the Mosin Nagant addiction jshelley. My first Mosin Nagant was a M91/30 1943 Izvesk like yours. Except when I got mine back in 2002, I don't remember the Ukrainian imported like new refurbed rifles being around yet. Mine was an old refurb that had been reissued somewhere and heavily used. The price you paid isn't really that bad for buying at full retail. I paid a little over $100 with tax for my first at a local gun shop six years ago.

The brass end caps on the hand guard is a bit of a bonus. They are more correct on earlier rifles but with the refurbished rifles, you see a mix of a little of everything.
