You didn't buy these from Dave F did you? ;)
This is a Tokyo (Koishikawa) produced rifle made near the end of it's 2 million + production run.
On the encircled triangle. It seems to be related to the proof firing of the weapon.

No, my uncle gave me the 38 about 16 years ago and just now started to research it. The 99 I bought today to replace some parts on the 38. I gave $200 for the 99. It seems too nice to try to take apart so I think I'll just have it checked out and get ammo for it. Any more info would be appreciated.

The parts are not interchangable between the T-38 & 99.
With minimal effort you can have two fine sporters.

Unfortunately true! The early type 30 bayonets and the magazine follower springs are the only things that will fit on both models.

I recently got a complete type 38 bolt with early boob nipple safety knob for just 75 bucks; but it isn't likely that you're gonna find one that cheap again. Gunparts Corp has modified the type 99 firing pin and safety for use on a type 38 rifle. It works; but isn't the correct parts.

Expect to shell out about $150.00 or more for the complete stock and handguard. These show up in EBAY auctions on a weekly basis. You might even get some of the metal hardware in the deal.

I know from my recent experience, that some of these parts are hard to find. You might be stuck with using repros made by a man named Don. Google reproduction Japanese rifle parts for his price list...

i just sold a complete 38 bolt on here for $50 so yeah you can get some good parts here. numrich is a rip off in my opinion. repro parts, high shipping costs....need i say more? stock sets go for less than the $150 tag mentioned above. check other sources like gunbroker where stock sets can be found for $80.

on a side note, the mag springs cannot be interchanged. they are different and a 38 will not work correctly on a 99.

I didn't get that complete early type 38 bolt from Numrich. They'll charge 50-60 bucks just for what looks like a reproduction firing pin. So yah their prices are a bit high on those Japanese rifle parts.

Just picked up a spare trigger guard, magazine box, floor plate, follower and W spring for just 25 bucks on EBAY. Gun Parts wants about 30 bucks each just for the follower and floor plate.

Now I can replace the reblued parts on my rifle with original hardware at a good price. Type 38 floor plates aren't hinged like the 99's and might get lost. Nice to have an extra one around here.

Here's a complete type 99 bolt for sale on EBAY...
