No, the unit mark is from the 2ns Grenadier Reserve Regiment of the Imperial German Army. This piece never went to Canada. The QHG (Quebec Home Guard) rifles were modified to single shot and the stocks were marked appropriately.
About the unit marking: this seems to be '2. Garde-Reserve-Regiment'
The 'G' usually means 'Garde' (which is in fact Elite troops). Grenadeers would be 'Gren'.

Fantastic rifle, awesome condition, indeed. You know that for safety reasons (because of the tube-type magazine) the bullets used in the M71/84 rifle had slightly flattened heads as compared with the standard M71 round?
