I purchased my first Mosin a few weeks back and have had a blast with it at the range. Yesterday a guy told me I should get a synthetic stock for it since the wood ones were, as he put it, worthless.

Granted the gun is not in great condition, but I like the look and feel of the original stock. Are there any advantages to a synthetic stock on these?

I get the feeling he was just an opinionated contrarian.

Your informant doesn't know about the history of this rifle. To trade a perfectly good original stock for a synthetic would be like taking a Rolls Royce running gear and putting on it a Nash Rambler body. If you like the original stock keep it where it belongs. Let your friend live on in ignorance.

The dude is just another clueless idiot, trying to tell you what's best for you. So typical in this world... You totally got it correct, it's all about the feel, the look, the history about your rifle, being just as it was when it left the hands of the last soldier that carried it. I have learned to simply ignore people like that, and it sure doesn't take them long to get the point and go away.

HEY There!! My first car was a '62 Nash Rambler with a push button shifter! But looking back, it was a Rolls Royce to me!

If some one were coming at me with a flamethrower I'd rather be armed with a fire hose!
