OK. Am going to purchase my first Mosin soon. Have narrowed down to either a M38 circa 1939 or a 91/30 circa 1924-28. Any thoughts?

My First Mosin Nagant was the M-38 always Enjoy shooting the carbines.. I guess theres something about big fireballs that makes me giddy.. Dont expect one to be your last if you like the first...Working on a limited budget I have a Few Mosin Nagants of different models.. I enjoy them all but still like my FIRST one.. Just wish I could find em for $50 like I did back in the Early 90's... What ever you choose ENJOY..

If there's a 1939 dated M-38 available to you, GRAB IT QUICK! First year production rifles don't turn up often and are fairly uncommon. You'll have a much easier time finding a mid to late 1920's M91/30. You'll end up with both anyway ;), so get the harder one first if possible.

Good luck!

If you've got a line on a 1939 dated M38, probably better buy it. Really, my opinion is that just about any M38 is more significant than just about any updated Dragoon. Others may see that differently.

At the prices these are going for right now.....you're never going to lose out on these.

I'd buy one of each and put them back for a few years...
