by tomorrow PM. Any diff in value/rarity between
a 1944 date and 1943 ? Both in laminate. No C/B
on either. Need to "squeeze" the trigger on the
deal tomorrow. The more opinions, the better.

Tula only made M38s in 1940 and 1944. Of course we've been surprised before by rifles that "didn't exist", but my money is on them both being Izhevsk.

If they are 1943 and 1944 Tula M38s then the 1943 is certainly the more rare of the two as no one here has heard of one before. As for value, the sky would be the limit at auction. The 1944 would be worth $150 to $250 depending on condition, location, and how bad somebody wants it.

You'll be wasting your time looking through books for Mosin values.

1940 was only made on a trials production basis. There is only one known 1940 Tula M38 in the US. Guess which one of our fearlous friends here has it. As far as 1944, no one is exactly sure. But they are definately not as common as the Izhevsk M38's. I've probably seen 150 regular Izhevsks for every 1 Tula M38.

I don't know what the production numbers are, but Sean's right that 1940 is very rare. I've run across a fair number of 1944s but they're not common.

He's got the 1940 tula 91/59. If thats what you're asking.

Guys, thanks for the replies. The 1943 was Izhevsk.
The 1944 M38 Tula should arrive next tues or wed.
Will post when she arrives. No dig camera but will
describe her dressed and undressed (in wood and out
of wood). <chuckle>

How could someone think they were both Tula if one is an Izhevsk and the other is a Tula?
