I just acquired an H&R Garand S/n 5644xxx. I tore it down, all the parts ar H&R, including the stock. The cartouches are all correct (according to Scott Duff) but the bolt is an S.A. Is it correct, a borrowed part maybe? Help!!

There are others more knowledgeable but as far as I know some late H&R's used SA barrels. Early H&R (I believe the 4.66M range) used a number of SA parts. I don't believe that the SA bolt is correct for the 5.6M rifle but it should function great and shoot great. Another question, what are the markings on the SA bolt. Some H&R parts are harder to tell than others, the unmarked one's obviously :). There are subtle differences in the gas cylinder and some of the internal parts.

I don't think it was rebuilt, think they marked them as rebuilt and there would be more than just one non-H&R part. Besides, I dont think a 1955 Garand with no import marks saw much action other than a light dusting.
