Picked up a '42 Mosin M38 (with a 1941 receiver tang), that has an unusual marking that I've never seen it before.
It's the marking "X3495" stamped vertically on the left side of the barrel shank.
All the numbers except for "..95" are covered by the stock. It is different from the serial #.
What does it represent? Here are some pics:

The gun does not appear to have gone through the Russian refurb and has no import markings on it.
Not counterbored and completely mismatched. The seller claimed it was a Korean War bring back.
Any held would be appreciated.
