I am reforming 220 swift into 7.62x45. I don't have a lathe and have been trying to cut the extractor groove with the brass chucked in a drill and using a triangle file with little success. I'm not getting anywhere. I have decent quality files but is there a trick or a specific file or am I missing something?

Thanks

Try using a rougher cut file and use a file brush frequently to keep it clean. I have also used hack saw blades with my press as a poor mans lathe when cutting down a 45/70 trim case gauge to make a 45/60. It worked surprisingly well. You can stack the blades to get more width when cutting. Use can different tooth counts to get a finer or coarser cut.
