Dear forum members,

My Nagant revolver is having trouble cycling when hot. Any idea or advise what might be the root cause and how to fix it is appreciated.

First 7 rounds usually go fine double or single action. From that point on, few first round after reload go smooth then cycle gets stuck in the middle of trigger pull, hammer is in 80% cocked position, cylinder has already rotated, but not moving forward to close the gap between cylinder and barrel.

Attempts to cock the hammer for single action leads to the same result, cocking gets stuck at 80% and cylinder has rotated.

The only way to fix this situation is to get it cool off or manually push cylinder forward with your fingers while cocking the gun.
No issues cycling when cold without rounds in the cylinder whatsoever.

Now, which part needs filing/polishing/lubrication is not clear to me. Any idea is welcome.

Thanks in advance for your help.

First question is, did you strip the pistol down and clean it VERY thoroughly? Sounds like there might be some cosmoline in the cylinder / cylinder shaft area. I lubricated mine with a VERY light wipe of oil too.

I did clean the pistol thoroughly several times. Unless there is a trick to cleaning the cylinder well, there should not be any cosmoline left.
Would it help to soak it in solvent in case some cosmoline left inside in between moving parts?

It sounds like a lockwork issue.Remove the sideplate and check the lockwork for any problems. If it was cosmoline, when the cylinder heated up it would melt out.It sounds like the hammer block is not pushing the cylinder forward.Do the serial numbers on the cylinder match the gun?
