I picked this up from UPS yesterday. I ordered it last Thurs I think. Its a 1943 Izzy thats in great condition. The rifle is ALL matching, the stock even has the rifle serial number written in pencil on the inside. The original scope number is lined out with the current number matching. This one did not come with a lens cap but instead came with a scope cover. The next day after ordering the rifle I ordered a scope cover not knowing they included one (big thanks RGuns). I will use the second one for my Yugo scopeless sniper thats still waiting for a scope. I only had time to take these pics in my garage and so the lighting is not so good. I will take better pics later when its good and sunny out. I figured out that my scope is an earlier version but any ideas on the approx date? The bore looks used but in great shape. Nice shiny crown with no counter bore and optics are perfectly clear. Sooo happy. Might not be rare but it's original so that is enough. Great purchase from RGuns.

Denny,

Great looking rifle! If I'm not mistaken, you even have a Tula scope mount.

Just an offhand question, are you in Law Enforcement? The only reason I ask is that when I was in the Police Academy, we had an Instructor that always used your quote.

Nice. So they are giving the covers away?
I dono if I just got lucky or what, I did not ask about them at all thats why I called back the next day to order one before they were gone. Maybe cause I didn't get the lens covers they felt bad and gave me the scope cover.

Nice sniper!

Denny, your scope is one of the first PUs produced in 1942. Does it have brass lens retaining rings? I have one like yours and it is made of aluminum, painted black like yours. Mine has steel retaining rings. Great catch!

Nice! I did get lens covers with my Tula and called Roger after i got mine to tell him I was a Gunboard member and he honored his deal with Vic for members. After I faxed a copy of my receipt he sent me a scope cover at no cost. Got it today.

I cant remember were I've heard it outside of the Academy, but it's true.
Honestly I cannot remember, so I cannot give proper credit where it's due.

I think the term "copper" derives from the hats worn by the NYC Police at the turn of the century that had a copper band across the brow.

I believe the term came from the Brits and stood for "Constable On Patrol"...;)

Several ideas on copper, NYC cops wore a copper badge , not a copper band on the hat. Also COP stood for "constable on patrol". At least thats what we were taught in "the academy", nice rifle by the way! Love the quote also.
