Well, I finally finished the restoration of my RC S/42G. The coup de grace was the all matching Weimar Obendorf bolt from Chasdev (Mucho Gracias again). I have never seen a marked bolt shroud retainer pin. In nearly a year and a half, I have replaced the RC stock with a Mario special, a matching 1936 S/42 Walnut Weimar Obendorf including trigger guard, floor plate, follower, and spring. The finish was stripped off and now has many coats of hand rubbed Tung oil. I knew I could never find a S/42G stock (or say afford one - I saw a matching B-block set sell for $390 on eBay last winter), so I decided to do things as close to a bolt MM as I could on this stock instead. The numbered trigger screws and Weimar capture screws came from Tommy. MOW gets credit for the sight spring and eventually the ramp whenever I have time to bully it off the rear sight assembly. The S/42G sight leaf came from Numrich. All visible numbers are now "56" or "65", with the ejector box and sight leaf at 61 and the original serial front sight "00". Cleaning rod is unmarked. Every other part (32) bears an Obendorf WaA; K155/167, WaA63, 135, 211, and 655.

This one is the best shooter of my six K98s.

Any ideas on what I should claim on my insurance rider for this rifle when I renew this month?

And another

Nice job! That is a nice example of what a little bit of Patience and Perseverance brings to project guns..... I am sure some extra $$ helped.also. You put together some nice parts groups. That stock is a looker.... Thanks for sharing...

More Pics

Miserable cold rainy day for taking pics. Here are a few older archived ones.

Here is as I first bought it.

A better picture of the cartouches.

Better sight leaf.

A better trigger guard.

Other views (original RC bolt)

Nearly always Yugo milsurp, 70's or better, but that's getting hard to find. Just bought two boxes of '54, so we'll see - have had bad luck with hard primers with 50's. The odd Turk, but not Romanian; too messy and I can't redeem the cases.

That is a very nice restoration you did, it looks great. I would however replace the sling with an original one for display and just use the repro for when you take the gun shooting. Tommy at US1945 had really nice ones, I bought a few from him and was glad I did.

I had a correct S/42G stock, handguard and early bands up on the trader for nearly 2 weeks, priced at $225.... WaA211 throughout, which is correct for early S/42G's (shared with Borsigwalde). Sold now.
