One peculiar feature; no trace of "U.S. Property" on the receiver rail. Serial number isn't one of the early ones that were not marked, I don't think.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that while in British service, the receiver rails of a number of Savage No4s were machined to remove the US PROPERTY markings, but I don't have any info beyond that.

Looks like you can build up a nice shooter. Do the numbers match?

Yes, Matt, numbers match on bolt handle and receiver. Too bad the barrel is bobbed. We'll see how it cleans up.............

Friend of mine is a retired British armourer. He said his unit alone milled off the "US PROPERTY" mark on thousands of No. 4s.
