Found this at our local pawn shop, Finn matched, bolt and Tikka marked hex receiver dated 1940, no marks on the stock, a few Tula marks here and there and when I removed the barrel and looked on the opposite side, there was another serial number, but the other stamps/marks where removed..bore and rifleing are very good..your opinions are appreciated..BTW I past this up at first because I wasn't sure what it was(I researched Russian mosins, and wasn't aware of the Finn marked ones). So I bought a Russian 1942 Izhevsk marked one, before I went back and bought this one..it was an Estate sale weapon I was told

Thanks

Nice Mosin find!!...

...Has the stock been re-finished?...or is that just the lighting in the photograph?...

...(and, just a head's up before somebody jumps on you for it...the "hex" part is the receiver, the "rounded" part with the dates on the upper portion is the barrel shank...so...your receiver date is underneath the receiver on the tang...more often than not, on the Finn Mosins, these dates differ from the barrel shank date)...

Thanks, I'm assuming the numbers on the opposite side of the barrel where serial numbers from a previous life too?
some more pictures would help other GunBoards members help you with this question...

the stock is unmarked but is the two piece pre-war, early war splice configuration, any idea why the stock is unmarked?(at least I can't seem to find any stamps or markings) and also would this be a "pot belly" stock? I can't seem to determine that

Many of the Finnish stocks had stockmaker's marks on them...but, yours might have been refinished at some point in its history (at least the one photo seems to suggest that)...some more detailed close-ups of the stock itself will help clear this up as well!!...

Thanks for the info..I'm definately new to this..the stock seems to have been refinished, it has a few spots on it where it looks like wood filler has been used,I plan on re-doing the stock with a more subdued finish to make it look like the old weapon that it is not a shiney new one.

take pics and post them first, though...if your finish turns out to be arsenal refinishing (although I doubt it), even though it is ultimately YOUR firearm, you probably DON'T want to mess with the finish...because that would be the appropriate finish for your particular firearm for that particular era...(but, again, it appears Stateside refinished to me)...

...again, post some pics before you make too many firm decisions about your Mosin...there is a TON of info to be learned here from the more seasoned and longer termed members!!...ask PLENTY of questions...there are BUNCHES of cool folks here who are more than willing to help a new and willing-to-learn GunBoard member!!...
