My Finnish Family

My latest acquisition- a New England Westinghouse M91 arrived last night, so I decided I should take a family photo!

Top to bottom are the M91, a SAKO M39, a Finnish Guard M28, and an M28/30. I have an M91/30 arriving next week.

Here’s the NEW:

It’s got a fair amount of putting underneath the stock line, but that’s not surprising on a 108 year old rifle. It has a few mismatched parts but that’s just part of it’s history.

That seems to be a controversial subject - I've seen different sources that claim A.H. Fx never made receivers and others that claim that's their mark. It certainly bears no resembllance to the A-> they put on barrels. The letters are intertwined E and D -- not sure how to get to Fox from there!

Upon closer inspection, the rear tang of the receiver has a <-M mark -- which @Homer2 has identified as an NEW Meriden plant mark. So did Meriden make the receiver?
I need to start collecting Finn's again. I've only got 7.

Yes the M is for Meriden, as seen on the barrel of your example as well. I am aware of some controversy to the origin of the “A.H. FOX” marking. I’m not sure to what extent the different factories/subcontractors played in assembly of the rifles, so I can’t tell you more than that. But irregardless the marking is nice to see

Thanks!

The M39 is 1943 and the M28/30 is 1937.
A nice family there. A small group but lots of variety.
