The scope and mount info. "4x, scope made 1938-1965. It has 3/4" tube 15.75" long. External adjustments for windage and elevation. Marketed with No. 8 mount."
The rifle info. "Model 44US(a) adjustable trigger pull added, made 1944-1946"
The above info is from damguys website I take it you mean a 44US(a) model.

It will only work if the rifle is drilled and tapped to accept the mount. USGI rifles were not as a rule set up that way. A few did show up in a particular production run but the vast majority were not D&T. I have a couple that were and used exactly the same set up you are asking about.
