Hey, new guy here. I've got a run-of-the-mill, 1936 Izzy that I would like to put a PE mount on. The apparent locations for the drill holes go through the serial number etching, though. Would a gunsmith be willing to drill through these markings to mount this thing? I don't have the equipment to drill and tap those tiny little holes without punching through.

Also, won't the middle screw hit the bolt lugs when they rotate?

5Mx5 screws that come with the mount extend 3mm into receiver.
Blind holes drilled and tapped just a hair over 3mm do not penetrate.
BTW: Devcon epoxy between mount and receiver prevents any slack or rock of the mount even if the screws loosen up. They will need locktite once final mounting is achieved or they will rattle loose.

hi there, i had exactly the same problem when i mounted a PE on my rifle. the base had to be drill-tapped then pinned and silver soldered over the new import markings. i had it done by a gunsmith since it is way to easy to mess up and ruin the lugs or drill into the chamber . in any case the import mark serial number will need to be drilled through or soldered over .there are 2 options-

1- get the gunsmith to re-stamp the serial number onto the receiver under the woodwork so that it doesnt look tacky

2- get the registered serial number changed to the original soviet one on the barrel shank. ( this may or may not be legal where you are since it is not on the receiver)
