Good morning, I picked up a couple of these and was told they were a Portuguese modification of Enfield slings. Can anyone tell me when they were modified so I can discern if they are WW1 or WW2 era? There are no markings on them that I can see. Also out of curiosity why would they have made these modifications instead of just using them as they were originally? Thanks, Lance

Liberty Tree Collectors show similar as Italian Navy slings. The Italians inherited a bunch of Enfields and accessories after the war as I recall.

Agreed. And the slings are post-WW2 Italian, not Portuguese.

I bought a couple a few years ago as possible web sniper sling parts. Never got that far in my fiddling.

Thank you all for your replies. I was completely unaware that the Italians ever used enfields. If nothing else they are very serviceable slings and don't look terrible to boot. Thanks again.
