am considering making offer on a Model 1917 Remington. All parts appear to be R marked, barrel is from 1918. Rifle is blued, has not been refurbished. Wood is in very good condition, does not appear to have been refinished. Rifling appears to be strong. Bolt is numbered to receiver, so service in a foreign military was likely as inferred from reading other posts on this site. No import marks apparent. Does foreign service make this less collectible? Can anyone help with an idea of a good price range for these rifles today. Thanks. coverga

Bought this mis-matched Remington with excellent JA replacement barrel recently for $600 shipped on another board. Remnants of red paint on handguard suggest lend lease. I was after a good vintage match shooter-think I got what I wanted.

Bought a Remington made 1917 L/L a month or so ago for $360 at a pawn shop. Rifle was manufactured by Remington with an excellent Remington 1918 barrel, an "R" stamped stock. Bolt doesn't match but is Remington, most other parts seem to be Eddystone. When I bought it, it had a shotgun recoil pad on it so had to reshape the butt plate area so I could install the correct butt plate.

Here's the pics of my recent purchase, should be obvious by the red paint it's the bottom one in the pics of three rifles.

I don't think foreign issued 1917s are any less collectible, it just means the rifle's seen more of the world. No shame in that. Assuming it hasn't been chopped or drilled or sporterized, I'd think you'd be doing well to get a Remington for $600 or less these days. I'd gladly pay more than that for a really nice example too. They're fantastic rifles.

That would depend on the individual collector. Some may not care one way or the other. Others may be specifically looking for one with foreign markings. Then again, someone who wants an example for a US WW1 collection would probably steer away from them.
