Was in VA this weekend and went to a shop that has a MM K98. Looked like a typical RC duv 42 with the usual hump job done by MM. I have read about their claim to offer special collector rifles with the "six key serials matching" or whatever dung they shovel into their magazine ads. When I saw the bolt I could only stare in disbelief. After being buffed every which way until it gleamed like a new quarter, they stamped the bolt handle with a "matching" serial number, along with the safety, I believe.

I'm no expert, but IMHO this borders on fraud, or at least a severe infraction of the "truth in advertising" that one expects.

At $300, I'd much rather spend money on a total m/m RC.

technically, they arent lying....the serials ARE matching, but they just forget to tell you that they faked the numbers.

Mitchells Mausers matching = grinding down all RC numbering, stamping with what-ever stamp font they have so the 6 main parts are matching....OOooo dont forget about the $1,000 strike of the death head they will sell you---
nothing like getting your combo "meal" super-sized!

Collector/shooter/average individual matching= ORIGINAL when produced numbers matching on all marked components....

Huge difference

They're still running full-page ads, so they must be selling a lot of those humpers. I'm as mad at the so-called "gun magazines" for running those ads as I am at Mitchell's for selling this false advertising in the first place. While I know better than to expect ethical behavior from the average toilet-quality gun magazine, it really burns me that the NRA would run those ads.

C'mon Earl - you want one and you know it. I'm surprised they don't have some rare "double-die" struck examples...they'd be uber-collectible, just like the coins. I don't see how they can make a profit...it looks like it'd take more than a little effort to produce those ultra-clean looking rifles.

They've proven that you can not only polish turds, but sell them for a nice profit.

I'm just waiting for Mitchell's Mausers to introduce the President Barak Obama Tribute K98 Mauser, with his likeness in realistic color emblazoned across the receiver, and his smiling face laser-engraved into the side of the buttstock.

i know, it sucks big time....but if the issue goes to court, they would win. they say the numbers are matching, and they ARE matching, even though it was THEM who did the "matching" (*cough* humping *cough*)
