DETROIT (AP) — Seven members of a Midwest militia accused of plotting to overthrow the government are set to stand trial, where jurors will decide whether federal authorities prevented an attack by homegrown extremists or simply made too much of the boasts by weekend warriors who had pledged to “take our nation back.”

Opening statements are set for Monday once a jury is seated in the trial of members of the Hutaree militia, who are charged with conspiring to commit sedition, or rebellion, as well as weapon crimes.

*Conflicting info in the full story. Are these people a serious threat or just some drunken Bubbas who got carried away with running around in the woods with guns?
Of course, the story would not be complete without mention of "machine guns" , "Agents seized machine guns, unregistered rifles, ammunition and parts for improvised explosive devices."
No detailed listing of specific weapons so we don't know if some "journalist" confused a semi-automatic rifle with "machine guns".

Were they a group of "Preppers" or a true bunch of looney tunes planning something rash?

"The government relied on an undercover agent inside the group and an informant. But the informant comes with warts"
Well, Big Brother is watching and listening and loose lips and drunken rambling can certainly draw their attention.
We have already seen that FBI list of activities that might get you on a terrorist watch list, like paying cash for your coffee at Starbucks, hoarding food, etc. ...

Are we approaching the point where owning and shooting guns or talking about them is going to get you on a list? Oh, never mind. You already are on a list since your purchase registered you.
Are you starting to look up and study the sky every time you hear a helicopter or gazing out the window for suspicious black SUVs parked in your neighborhood?
Is increasing paranoia driving gun sales?

The full details of the trial may be difficult to find and not reported but should prove very interesting. Inquiring minds will want to know.
Was this group a menace to society or is this another over reach of intrusive government?
