I got a nice Md.24/47 via UPS today. Inorder to get the cosmoline off the wood the importer must have used a power washer. From the photos you can see they got the cosmoline off, but they did a pretty good job on the wood surface also.

Can anyone recommend some type of wood oil or something to put some color and mosture back into the wood???

Rifle was directly from importer. If its got the wrong bands probably done during refurb.

Give me some help on how I should handle the heating.

Hair dryer? How long to apply just till the surface is warm?

Numrich did it to the 24/47's they imported. The didn't power wash them, they put them through a automated parts washer with a chemical solvent.

The CMP is doing the same thing to Garands now :(

You need to add some oil back to the wood, liberaly wipe the wood down inside and out with a 50/50 Boiled linseed oil/ mineral spirits mix.

I use a blow dryer to heat the wood.

That's one way. A heat gun will do it faster but care must be taken as a heat gun can scorch the stock.
Any of oil products will do for the stock. Just avoid commercial refinnishing products like Homer Formbys, Minwax and please not "Tru Oil! Those are just glorified varnishes or polys. Plain blo (boiled Linseed oil), tung oil as mentioned above or a blend of them will preserve the stock and closely match the original finish.

My 24/47 was like that too. I'll have to check the importer mark to see if it was Century. The stock was a refurbed 24 stock , I had assumed the factory sanded it and didn't finish it in the refurb process.

OTOH, the Yugo SKS that I got didn't have a lick of finish on the stock, ever. Dry as a bone, it would literally give you splinters if you rubbed it the wrong way. It took seven coats of BLO before it stopped absorbing the oil.
