I find the photo of the 8 men standing (and w/ one kneeling with Lewis gun in hand) to be really interesting: of the 9 men shown, 4 have been awarded the Iron Cross (1st class). Must have been a group of pretty battle-hardened men.
Big Boy 99 never enough! But each one has an original 250 rd WW! issued belt with deactivated/inert WWI rounds. Bloody heavy! Considering they had to be carried in combat along with various other gear its no small feat. Nothing has canged for the modern machine gunner!!
In the PHOTO ALBUM section there is a thread on German Machine Guns. I am trying to place my period imagery there but if the moderator felt it would be better to combine the 2 here I have no problem? Any thoughts welcome. Mark
