I've got a lovely 1941 commercial Mauser HSc 7.65mm that I'd love to shoot more regularly, but am experiencing failure to digest a full magazine. What happens is that the slide fails to close fully, with the new round chambered perhaps halfway. If I pull the slide back slightly and release, the round chambers. First, I thought that the feed ramp might be a bit rough. It was, so I polished it a bit. No change. Then, I thought the mainspring may have weakened over the years, so I replaced it with a Wolff. No change. This phenomenon occurs with all ammo types.

Could a weak mag spring be causing this problem? Are new mag springs available?

Since you've already changed the recoil spring as stated above the magazine itself may be the culprit. It should be disassembled and cleaned and the magazine spring checked. It could have weakened or even be kinked.
